Dana White interested in Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier, both UFC champions noncommittal

Get the Full StoryAfter UFC 220, UFC president Dana White wouldn t mind matching up the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champions. Dana White wants to see a super-fight between the two champions victorious at UFC 220.

The UFC president is interested in booking a heavyweight title fight between champ Stipe Miocic and light heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier. Miocic dominated Francis Ngannou in the UFC 220 main event, and Cormier stopped Volkan Oezdemir with strikes in the evening s co-headliner.

I was just talking to Cormier , White said on FOX Sports 1 after the event, which took place Saturday at TD Garden in Boston. I don t see why he couldn t fight at heavyweight. If he thinks that Cain might come back, then if he won the belt, he could give it up. But either way, it s a good fight. With all the defenses he has, Stipe just broke the record for most defenses, so it s a fun fight. ... I think that s a fight people would like to see.

Both Miocic and Cormier were noncommittal to any future matchup after their title defenses. Miocic announced in his post-fight interview his wife is having a baby; he added that he wants to relax and not think about MMA for a while. Cormier is in a similar situation; he did not say what is next for him, and he, too, just wants to spend time with his family.

Right now, I don t care, Miocic said at the post-fight press conference when asked if he d be willing to face Cormier. I just got done with fighting 45 minutes or one hour ago, whatever it was. 25 hard minutes with a tough dude. I don t really care what s going on right now.

DC said the biggest roadblock to a bout against Miocic is that his longtime training partner, former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez, is planning an eventual comeback. Cormier, who fought at heavyweight for the first 13 bouts of his professional career, dropped down to 205 pounds years ago in order not to interfere with Velasquez s career.

I haven t really thought about it, Cormier said at the post-fight press conference. It s hard for me now, because Cain s in the gym more. Cain s in the gym now getting back, preparing to do what he does best.

If he s getting prepared to get that belt back, then I have nothing for that division. That ll never change.

At UFC 220, Miocic broke the heavyweight record for most UFC title defenses, and Cormier got back into the winning column after a knockout loss turned no-contest to Jon Jones last summer.
