NBCUniversal Is Working On A Saved By The Bell Sequel Starring Jessie Spano And A.C. Slater

Get the Full StoryA few years ago, Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez slipped into their tightest buns-hugging jeans and reunited as Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater for a bit on Jimmy Fallon s TV show. And that was about as close as we all were going to get to an official Saved by the Bell sequel, reboot, or revival. Until now, that is. I hope they didn t donate those buns-huggers, because NBCUniversal are bringing Mama and Macho Pig back for a Saved by the Bell sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the Saved by the Bell sequel, which doesn t have an official name yet, is being made for NBCUniversal s new streaming service, Peacock. Elizabeth and Mario are the only core cast members that are signed on right now, but there is a chance Mark-Paul Gosselaar will return as Zack Morris, as his character is part of the sequel s narrative.

According to THR, the show centers around California Governor Zack Morris decision to close multiple low-income schools. So clearly Zack Morris learned NOTHING from Laura Benton, the homeless girl who lived at the mall, or that time Kelly was too poor to go to the prom classic douchebag Zack . The affected students are then sent to the highest-performing schools in the state, with Bayside High being one of them. The low-income students give the over-privileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality. Jessie and Slater will play parents. There s no mention of any one else returning.

Saved by the Bell started out as Good Morning, Miss Bliss in 1988. It was retooled as Saved by the Bell in 1989, which then underwent a bit of a makeover in the third season that gave us characters like Tori and Violet Bickerstaff. In the meantime, we also got Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style. Then in 1993, a bunch of them went to college in Saved by the Bell: The College Years, which was followed by 1994 s Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas. Also in 1993, NBC gave us Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which ran for seven seasons. So technically, this is a sequel to the original show.

The sequel itself will be written by Tracey Wigfield, who wrote for 30 Rock and Great News, two legitimately funny television shows. So this sounds like it probably won t be a Fuller House situation. NBCUniversal will launch Peacock in April 2020, with original programming happening in Summer 2020.

If I had to guess, I d say Jessie and Slater will probably be parents to snobby Bayside brats. I can already see Slater being a pain in the ass at the parent information night. Who even are these new students? And more importantly, what bathrooms will they use?! I m very concerned about the bathroom situation, please answer that question first!
