I Am Not Okay With This Isn't Out Yet, But We Already Need Netflix to Greenlight Season 2

Get the Full StoryNetflix's newest coming-of-age tale is the sci-fi dramedy I Am Not Okay With This. Although the first season doesn't start streaming until Feb. 26, we're already curious if there will be a second season. So far, there's no news, but the source material might have a clue for fans.

I Am Not Okay With This, which follows a teenage girl discovering her superpowers while navigating awkward high school life, is based on a graphic novel by Charles Forsman. Unlike some of the other comic and graphic novel adaptations recently, however, this novel is a standalone work, not part of a series. As such, it means that, in all likelihood, any seasons past the first season would have no source material to build off of and would have to venture into totally original territory. Outpacing or completing the original source material doesn't necessarily have to result in a forced ending for an adaptation hello, Game of Thrones! , but it does add an extra layer of complications. It also means that the creative team may have always planned for it to be just one season for one story, rather than planning for the long term.

In the end, of course, a huge part of the future of I Am Not Okay With This will rest on how well it does with viewers. Netflix's famously secretive numbers and algorithms will have to justify the series coming back for another season, and the cast and creative team will have to be on board with it as well. Working in its favor: Netflix's signature "creepy teen sci-fi" show, Stranger Things, is reportedly nearing its end, with the upcoming fourth season rumored to be its last. If I Am Not Okay With This can capture some of the Stranger Things audience, it might have a longer future as fans look for a new series to fill the void. Starring IT's Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff, I Am Not Okay With This starts streaming on Netflix on Feb. 26!
